Ways to Give
Annual Fund
Georgetown University Annual Funds provide critical funding for the university's most pressing needs. During fiscal year 2009, the Annual Fund raised more than $25.5 million from approximately 29,000 alumni, parents, and friends. This funding is already supporting all areas of the university, including undergraduate scholarships, Medical School, Law Center, Georgetown athletics, and Lauinger Library. Annual contributions are the most direct way you can support Georgetown's tradition of academic excellence. By making a gift every year to the area of the university that matters most to you, you are solidifying your commitment to Georgetown's future.
There are many options toward which your annual gift can be directed to meet your needs and interests.
- Reunion Gifts: Reunion events are perfect opportunities for alumni to reconnect with classmates and band together to support their alma mater. Special awards are presented to those classes whose annual gift and participation surpasses their fellow alum's. Designate your donation as a part of your class's reunion gift.
- Gift Pledges: Georgetown University welcomes your gift through a pledge - a formal statement of intention to make a gift to the university. With a pledge, you may complete your gift by making regular payments over time, allowing you to give more generously than you originally may have considered. What is more, each payment on your pledge is eligible for an income-tax charitable deduction.
- Matching Gifts: Matching gifts are one of the easiest ways to maximize your contribution to Georgetown University. These gifts are employer-donated contributions that match the contributions made by employees, sometimes on a one-to-one, two-to-one, or even three-to-one basis. To find out if your employer matches charitable gifts, use our employer gift matching search engine. You also can visit your human resources department to inquire about their procedures.
Current-Use Gifts
When you make a current-use gift to Georgetown University, your contribution can be put to work immediately - either providing funding for current programs or creating a reliable source of future income by expanding the university's endowment. A current-use gift may be composed of almost any asset of value.
- Cash Gifts - the simplest and easiest gift you can make - can be made through credit card transactions, cash, personal checks, cashier's checks, or money orders made payable to Georgetown University.
- Gifts of Appreciated Securities, Stocks, and Bonds also provide considerable tax advantages when transferred to Georgetown University before they are sold. Learn more about donating your securities.
