As a star shortstop in high school, Samantha "Sam" Peters (N’10) could have played softball for any college she desired. Although Georgetown's brand-new team offered Sam a smaller scholarship than other programs, it enabled her to consider Georgetown for the unique experience it offered, rather than its cost.

Grateful for the chance to enjoy Georgetown's stellar academics, personal coaching and the opportunity to help build a team, she says, "I am thankful every day to be at a place where I can be competitive both on and off the field."

Sam hit 16 home runs last season, led the team in stolen bases and enabled the young team's unprecedented success-all while balancing biology labs and completing an internship in Argentina. After visiting public hospitals and observing pediatric surgeries in Argentina, Sam is considering a career as an orthopedic surgeon.

"Georgetown has changed my life," she says. "Going to Georgetown, I knew I'd make friends and have fun. I knew classes would be difficult. But I never knew college would give me a sense of dignity and pride in what I'm doing with my life."
