Gene Mutations Could Be Key to Cancer Treatment

Georgetown Lombardi pediatric hematologist-oncologist Gary Kupfer, M.D., is studying a rare genetic disease of cancer predisposition, Fanconi anemia, that has revealed important information about DNA repair and protection of the genome, which is key to how cancer begins and progresses.

In his research, Dr. Kupfer has come to understand that there are mutations in Fanconi genes that are found in a broad variety of common cancers in adults and children alike, and that these mutations could be key to treatment. But your support is needed to keep critical research like this moving forward.

“The only way things get done, the only way projects come to fruition is with the inclusion of philanthropy. There is absolutely no way that things can happen without it.” says Dr. Kupfer.
