The Future of Cancer
Care is Evolving
Care is Evolving
When you support the
2025 Campaign to Save Lives, you’ll partner with experts like Geoffrey Thomas Gibney, a Georgetown Lombardi physician-scientist who treats patients at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and is optimistic about emerging advancements in cancer treatment.
“The future of cancer care in many tumor types is evolving very quickly,” Dr. Gibney says. “In melanoma in particular, we’ve had some great successes…but we know that not every patient will respond to those therapies. So, there have been major research developments trying to expand the types of treatments and the number of patients that can be treated.”

Leading-Edge Treatment at Georgetown Lombardi
At Georgetown Lombardi, we combine leading-edge treatments with compassionate, patient-focused care. Paul’s story is one example of the hope and support we bring to people facing cancer.
In 2019, Paul turned to Georgetown Lombardi after doctors diagnosed him with Stage 4 Melanoma. Surgeons removed two brain tumors, and he began immunotherapy with Dr. Gibney. Through every step, Dr. Gibney listened, answered questions honestly, and made sure Paul felt supported—not just in treatment, but in his overall well-being.
“Dr. Gibney always took the time to listen and answer our questions honestly. His positive, can-do attitude and compassion made all the difference during this challenging time,” Paul shared.
