Give Hope to People Like Alima
“I was shocked and surprised,” Alima says, recalling the day she discovered a lump under her right arm. “I’ve never smoked. I never drank. So, I’m like, ‘What in the world? Where did this come from?’”
Alima turned to Georgetown Lombardi, home of the Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research.
Under the care of Claudine Isaacs, M.D., leader of the clinical breast cancer program, Alima participated in a clinical trial that offered novel, cuttting-edge treatment and intensive follow-up.
“With new drugs and imaging techniques improving outcomes for patients, the field of breast cancer research is rapidly changing,” Dr. Isaacs said. “We were able to see through the preoperative therapy how Alima’s tumor was responding. It responded great and it really shrank.”
