The Kalmanovitz Scholars Current Use Scholarship Fund was created by Dan Giraudo (B’01), a San Francisco-based business leader and trustee of the Kalmanovitz Charitable Foundation. The foundation already supported Californians attending in-state schools, but Giraudo extended the charity’s reach to Georgetown University after his own positive experience on the Hilltop.
“Most students don’t have the means to go to a place as far away as Georgetown,” says Giraudo. “This gives students in our own backyard the opportunity to experience Washington, D.C.”
Giraudo has a personal connection to the first-generation college student community; his father was the first person in his family to attend college. He hopes to open up possibilities for other family trailblazers.
“Being here in D.C.—with everything that’s going on—is an unbelievable experience for a student to have,” he says.
