University-Wide Priorities

Today, as in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, we must prioritize the well-being of our community and the continuity of our mission. We do so while grappling with fundamental societal challenges—legacies of racial injustice, threats to our environment’s sustainability, and ongoing political polarization.

Whatever the situation, wherever our location, Georgetown is an extraordinary community capable of extraordinary impact—and it will take the commitment of every one of us to meet the challenges of this moment.

We ask you to join us in building a stronger and safer future by investing in three critical priorities: supporting student well-being, ensuring healthy and safe campuses, and serving others through discovery and impact.

Supporting student well-being

COVID-19 continues to present students and their families with unprecedented challenges. Removing financial obstacles to students’ education remains Georgetown’s highest priority, and at a time of great crisis and dislocation, it is critical that we redouble our longstanding investment in student health, well-being, and sense of community.

Our strength as an institution is inextricably linked to the strength of our students—and your gift to support the following programs is the single most direct way you can invest in Georgetown’s future:

Ensuring safe and healthy campuses

Working with public health experts, government officials, and members of our Georgetown community, the university has built a completely new infrastructure to ensure a safe return to our campuses and continuity of our teaching and research mission. These efforts have allowed a phased reopening, preparing us for when we can all be safely together again and establishing lasting best practices.

The university estimates a cost of $100M to continue implementing this infrastructure through this academic year. Your gift in the following areas will support that ongoing work—and our institution’s long-term health.

  • Georgetown’s public health infrastructure for COVID-19, which includes:
    • Partnership with One Medical to execute testing and daily symptom tracking
    • PPE and safety kits for all students, faculty, and staff on campus, including Georgetown masks produced in special partnership with Alta Gracia
    • Campus preparations, including enhanced sanitation procedures, signage and physical barriers, and Public Health Ambassadors
  • Technology and curricular adaptation to support academic continuity, including:
    • Technological upgrades to classrooms
    • Additional investments in technology platforms
    • CNDLS faculty workshops and resources for remote and hybrid teaching

Serving others through discovery and impact

In this moment, we are compelled to deploy our deep expertise in critical areas—including medical research, racial justice, and technology’s impact in society—in service to our D.C. community and the world. Many of our ongoing research and policy projects address problems directly related to the COVID-19 crisis.

Georgetown’s commitment to discovery in service to others is needed now more than ever. Your gift will accelerate our work to understand and address urgent global challenges in the following areas:
