School of Nursing

The School of Nursing at Georgetown University builds on a 120-year tradition of educational excellence at the professional, advanced practice, and doctoral levels, while raising the school’s profile in research and scholarship. It is one of two new schools (along with the School of Health) launched in 2022 from the foundation of the former School of Nursing & Health Studies.

Georgetown’s commitment to nursing—and to preparing students for this critical segment of the workforce—is infused by our Jesuit values of caring for the whole person and serving the common good. Philanthropic support ensures that we can compete for the most talented students, provide a world-class learning environment, and graduate skilled nursing leaders.

Educating exceptional nurses

Georgetown nursing students have access to numerous master’s and doctoral degree offerings, as well as the traditional four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. Taught by a highly regarded faculty, BSN students gain clinical skills; knowledge of the biological, physical, and social sciences; and a grounding in nursing theory. They begin hands-on clinical training their very first year and have access to an array of experiences across the region’s health systems, at community-based organizations, and via Georgetown’s O’Neill Family Foundation Clinical Simulation Center.

Education at the School of Nursing is grounded in cura personalis—the care and development of the whole person. We prepare students for a meaningful life, challenge them intensively, and support them in their learning. Students develop into professionals who can recognize and respond to the full human experience—and apply that valuable perspective as they go on to varied careers, graduate programs, and leadership roles.
