Georgetown Law Impact Report Spring 2019

Dear Alumni and Friends,

This has been a remarkable year for Georgetown Law. We continue to lead the nation with our experiential learning opportunities, and we have pioneered new programs that embody our Jesuit ideals of educating and caring for the whole person. This is possible because of the generosity of our alumni community.

I am proud of the loyal support that Georgetown Law alumni provide and exceedingly grateful for what that support means for our students. Thanks to you, a Georgetown Law education is financially accessible to students who otherwise could not have dreamed of studying here; students like Mariame Dangnokho who shares her story below. Because of you, students experience a forward-thinking curriculum with course options like “Coding for Lawyers” that will prepare them for a legal world that looks drastically different from the one I graduated into. Through your generosity, our 17 unrivaled clinics provide real-world training that is invaluable for developing lawyers.

Please enjoy this digital report, which highlights just a fraction of the effect your giving has had on our community.

As an institution, we owe many of our successes to you. So, on behalf of everyone here at the Law Center, thank you for your commitment, your generosity, and your support.

With Gratitude

I knew I wanted to attend Georgetown Law. I knew that it was one of the best law schools in the country. And I knew that with my financial situation it was going to be exceedingly difficult for me to manage on my own.

What I didn’t know was that I would discover an extended family at the Law Center. That the quality of the legal education at this school is surpassed only by the generosity and compassion of its alumni. And I didn’t know the extent to which financial aid would open the door for me to become a Hoya.

When I started this year, I participated in RISE, a new program dedicated to ensuring 1L students receive the mentoring and resources we need to reach our full potential. Having that instant support system put my first year jitters to rest and gave me the drive to explore and embrace all that law school has to offer. I have joined student groups, attended practice area lunches, and even attended a talk with a Supreme Court Justice! This summer I will be working with the legal department of a Fortune 500 company—an experience that I am thrilled to learn from.

Thank you alumni! Thank you for the opportunity that you have given me. Thank you for the doors that your support continues to open. Thank you for caring about the students who follow in your footsteps. I am committed to making the most of my time at Georgetown Law and when I join you as an alumna, I am committed to following your generous example.
