Georgetown University Impact Report Spring 2020

Dear Alumni and Friends,

I am deeply grateful for your gift this fiscal year. As a part of our Georgetown family, dedication like yours is essential to making a Georgetown education accessible for all, especially during this time when more students and families face financial instability.

Thanks to your support, so far this year we have raised over $6 million for the Georgetown Fund from more than 10,000 donors. Your investment helps ensure the success of our university’s primary endeavor—educating exceptional students who will go on to realize their fullest potential as Hoyas for others.

Your generosity has not only changed their lives, but the lives of those they will serve in the future. Thank you again for your commitment to the success of our institution, and most importantly, our students.

Sincerely,

Paul Lanzone (MBA’15)
Associate Vice President of Alumni Engagement

With Gratitude

I grew up on a small farm in Harvard, Massachusetts and was always focused and driven in school. I was very curious about my surroundings and had my eyes set on Georgetown from a young age. At the time I was getting ready to apply, my family suffered a major financial reversal and it suddenly was not at all clear that my dream would come true.

I had visited Georgetown and was enchanted with its history and Neo-Gothic architecture, but more than that, was drawn by its Jesuit values that spoke to the education of the whole person, calling Georgetown graduates to serve their communities and the world. I was so excited when I got in, and even more so when the financial aid package and scholarships I received meant that I would be able to join my classmates on the Hilltop in the fall.

I am so grateful to generous donors like you, who helped me get to the Hilltop, and want to acknowledge the impact you have had on my life. I would not have been able to attend Georgetown had I not received a scholarship. And I know—because of your example—that being a Hoya doesn’t end after graduation. It is a life-long commitment.

Thanks to your support I am excited to begin my career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the fall. My experiences as a Hoya have opened the doors to make all of it possible.

Why I Give…

Supporting Georgetown is an important part of the lives of many of our donors. Here is what three Hoyas have to say about the importance of philanthropy.

“I give because Georgetown made a difference in my life, and I too want to make a difference in the lives of our deserving students.”

Ping Chen (R’98, W’01)

“We have given to Georgetown for so many reasons over the years! First, to our graduating classes and our respective sports teams (Sailing and Rowing), then to reunions and other worthwhile causes like Mission and Ministry and the Georgetown Scholars Program (GSP). There are so many facets of Georgetown that have made our family so thankful to be part of such a strong and inspiring community for others. We have made many lifelong friends at Georgetown, and it is always a thrill to set foot back on campus to see that tradition continuing!”
