Berkley School of Nursing

For more than a century, Georgetown has educated ethical, highly skilled nursing professionals committed to meeting society’s health care needs. Our commitment to nursing—and to preparing students for this critical segment of the workforce—is infused by our Jesuit values of caring for the whole person and serving the common good.

Today, the Georgetown University Berkley School of Nursing is building on this foundation, strengthening pathways to nursing, educating skilled professionals for a new era, and contributing to a healthier future for all.

To address the ever-rising demand for nursing professionals, we must expand program recruitment, capacity, and access, minimizing financial barriers to a nursing education. Improving retention in practice is another critical goal. Mentorship opportunities, student resources, and specialized programming for early-career nurses will help position students for long and meaningful careers.

Philanthropic support—for scholarships, faculty, student support initiatives, and technological advancements—will help ensure that we can realize this vision in a distinctly Georgetown way.

Educating exceptional nurses

Students at the Berkley School of Nursing have access to numerous master’s and doctoral degree offerings, as well as the traditional four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) degree, which provides an expedited pathway for those who already hold a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing.

Taught by our highly regarded faculty, BSN and ABSN students gain clinical skills; knowledge of the biological, physical, and social sciences; and a grounding in nursing theory. They begin hands-on clinical training their very first year and have access to an array of experiences across the region’s health systems, at community-based organizations, and via Georgetown’s O’Neill Family Foundation Clinical Simulation Center.

Our students develop into professionals who can recognize and respond to the full human experience—and apply that valuable perspective as they go on to varied clinical positions, graduate programs, and leadership roles.

Caring for communities

The rural West Virginia service trip is one of the Berkley School’s premier experiential learning opportunities, allowing students and faculty to engage with the unique health care needs of rural American populations. Prioritizing cultural humility and deep listening, students conduct comprehensive health screenings, provide essential vaccinations, and deliver targeted health education. Made possible with philanthropic support, the trip provides invaluable firsthand insight into how geography, social determinants of health, and economic factors shape communities’ health and well-being.
