Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center

For over 50 years, our commitment to our community has fueled the success of Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center—the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in Washington, DC, and one of just 57 nationwide.

Grounded in our values as a Jesuit institution, our researchers and clinicians offer a unique combination of expertise and empathy. We bring discoveries from the bench to the bedside in partnership with MedStar Health, translating innovative research into patient care—and ensuring we meet individuals where they are in the spirit of cura personalis, or care of the whole person.

Today, we are building on this momentum through GUMC’s Cancer Pillar of Excellence—a vision for advancing strategic goals that reflect our founding values. Together with our philanthropic community, we will:

  • Inspire compassionate and skilled researchers and clinicians by investing in faculty, scholarships, and pathways to medicine for the next generation.
  • Fuel the development of new cancer treatments by supporting innovative research projects, endowing faculty positions in new and emerging fields, and resourcing early-career investigators who will define the future of the field.
  • Strengthen engagement with community and clinical partners to expand preventive services, patient navigation, and survivorship support at every stage of the cancer journey.

“We bring world-class cancer care closer to home. That means patients receive the most advanced therapies, guided by Georgetown Lombardi’s research and expertise, while surrounded by the people who give them strength—their family, their faith, their community.”

—Norman Beauchamp, M.D., Executive Vice President, Georgetown University Medical Center, Executive Dean, Georgetown University School of Medicine
