Georgetown University Medical Center

For nearly 200 years, Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) has worked to serve our communities in the spirit of cura personalis, or care of the whole person. Grounded in the university’s Catholic and Jesuit tradition, this mission animates every school, program, and research center across our internationally recognized academic health and science center.

Our commitment to health for all

Every day, we build on this work, knowing that we can—and must—do more.

We educate compassionate and skilled researchers, clinicians, and health leaders—professionals who are as committed to excellence as they are to service.

We conduct groundbreaking research, leading studies and clinical trials that accelerate the development of lifesaving therapies, interventions, and evidence-based standards of care.

We bring these discoveries from the bench to the bedside in collaboration with our academic health system partner, MedStar Health, the largest integrated health system in the mid-Atlantic.

We shape policy and practice, confronting complex, intractable problems facing the most vulnerable.

We work to improve health outcomes locally and globally, serving as “people for others” with compassion and cultural humility.

Donor support ensures that we can expand our impact—through investments in student talent, faculty, research, clinical excellence, community engagement, and other transformative opportunities to bring hope and health for all.

“We are dedicated to advancing health, hope, and healing for all. We develop leaders who combine academic excellence and expertise with deep empathy—improving the well-being of communities near and far, rooted in our Jesuit commitment to service and the common good.”
