Endowments

Endowment gifts can have a tremendous impact on a program and the Athletic Department as a whole. Endowed funds provide support in perpetuity for Georgetown Athletics and create a lasting legacy on the Hilltop. Gifts can be made to establish endowed scholarship funds, coaching excellence funds or operational funds to assist with annual budgetary needs.

Georgetown Athletics is able to fund 128 athletics scholarships each year, but only a small percentage are funded through endowments. In 2020-21, 116 student-athletes received all or partial grant-in-aid from athletic department endowed scholarships. The goal is to endow all scholarships in order to free up funds for additive items for teams on an annual basis.

Gifts to establish endowed scholarships are invested, and an annual distribution is used to provide grant-in-aid.

• $150,000 will create a named and endowed scholarship fund that supports students year after year.
• $1.5 million will create an endowed scholarship fund with income that covers the equivalent of the full cost of attending Georgetown.

Endowing coaching positions shows our commitment to attracting and retaining coaches who will carry on our culture of excellence.

• Named head coach positions begin at $3M
• Assistant coach endowments begin at $1M
• Named coaching funds begin at $150,000

Like other endowments, an operational endowment provides support in perpetuity for a particular program or area of the department. Operating endowments can be used to support one of the department’s most vital resources, our personnel. Endowments can support positions beyond team coaches in areas such as sports performance, academics, nutrition, mental health, and more.
