IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution

Learn more about how the SECURE Act and the CARES Act may affect your tax and retirement planning

More details

If you are 70½ or older, you may be able to take advantage of your IRA to make tax-smart charitable gifts to Georgetown. By requesting a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) or charitable rollover from your IRA, you can direct up to $108,000 each calendar year to eligible charities—including Georgetown.

Notify Georgetown about your incoming QCD and any designation for your gift at giving@georgetown.edu or (800) 347-8067. Some IRA administrators send checks with no identifying donor information, so sharing the details of your QCD helps ensure we can confirm receipt of the funds and make sure you are properly credited for the gift.

Recent federal legislation now allows individuals expanded opportunities to use a QCD of up to $54,000 to fund a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) or Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT), as well.
